Recently, we received some photos from one of our ship modeling blog readers, Mr. Robert Shirley – a beautifully done build of Amati’s 1/50-scale Drakkar Viking Ship kit, which is one of our most popular wooden ship model kits.
Robert writes “I consider myself an advanced beginner, but am very pleased with this kit! I used a layers of Sedona Red, Ipwich Pine and Walnut stains to get a weathered, rustic look on the hull, and implemented the cross-hatched red ribbon on patterned linen sails. I left the shield pretty much as is, applying some “steel” paint on the shield outer edges. I didn’t trust my painting skills to decorate the wood portions of the shield — I thought the bronzed finish on them looked nice without having to modify them.”
I’m sure you’ll agree with us that Robert did an awesome job on this model, clearly work that exceeds his self appointed title of Advanced Beginner! We really enjoyed receiving photos of this beautifully done Amati Drakkar.
We’ve received photos from other builders of this kit, and it’s interesting to see how each builder puts their own individual touches into their builds.
