Newly Revised Sanson Tugboat from Artesania Latina Now Available

Spanish wooden ship model kit company Artesania Latina has long produced a kit of the tugboat Sanson. While the kit disappeared for a while, it is back and it looks better than ever.

Completely redesigned with a new approach to wooden model kit instructions, the new Sanson kit is considered an Intermediate model kit that can be built by beginners, due to a very detailed set of video instructions that make this kit truly unique.

Here, Artesania Latina has done away with printed instructions. They actually did this in previously released kits, which included photo-based instructions available on an included DVD and which could also be downloaded from the Internet. But, with the Sanson, they have included only a large 1:1 photo of the completed model, as all instructions are done in a series of these detailed Youtube videos.

While this type of instructions may take some getting used to for long time builders, it is ideal for for introducing the newer generations of model builders into the world of wooden ship model building.

But, beyond the instructions, this is a wonderful 1:50 scale wooden kit that will make a beautiful, large, display model, or can be built for Radio Control operation. What’s more, you can add some night life to your model with the optional LED Lighting Set for Scale Models, available separately.

More Krick Kits in Stock

Ages of Sail has expanded its lineup of ship and boat model kits from German manufacturer Krick. Many of these are designed for RC operation, so if you’re looking for something to build now, and something to operate on the water later, take a look at these great kits.

Comtesse is a beautiful, modern sailing yacht. The completed model is just under 1 meter in length and 1.5 meters tall.

Duesseldorf Firefighting Boat is a 1:25 scale model that measures nearly 46″ long. This model kit has so many features that you may choose to make operable that it will no doubt be a big attraction on the water.

The optional working systems include fire monitors, crane, anchor winch, radar, searchlights, blue light, horn and siren, and also the sound of the diesel engines. However, this is the basic kit, it’s up to you to add the various possible features you want, but there’s plenty of room inside this big hull to fit it all.

Antje Fishing Cutter is a 1:20 scale model of a North Sea and Baltic Sea workboat. At 25″ long, this is a more compact model than the others described here, but it probably has as much, if not more character than anything you’ll find operating on your model boat pond. Still, the hull has ample space for a large battery, motor, and control system.

The Andrea Gail is the American fishing boat made famous by the film “The Perfect Storm”. These are BIG models, designed for RC operation. They’re also very easy to assemble and will look nice on the water or on display. The kits don’t include any RC equipment, nor do they include running hardware. So you’ll need to add your own components, though word has it that we’ll be getting some running hardware sets that will work for these models.

The kits feature fiberglass hull with beautiful mahogany decking already in place. The vinyl seats are already made, you simply need to glue them into place, along with the detail accessories. Note that the display stand shown in the photos is not included.

New Deans Marine Shipment

If you’ve been looking for Deans Marine kits on our website, you probably noticed that we’ve been out of stock on a number of the more popular products. But, we recently received a new shipment from Deans Marine. So, if you’ve been waiting for your ship to come in, check out the new stock!

Christiaan Bruning – RC Ready kit from Deans Marine

For those of you not familiar with this line of kits from the UK, the company makes a line of very fine kits designed for RC operation. They featured fiberglass hulls and details in plastic, wood, cast alloy, resin, and photo etched brass.

There’s a wide range of subjects including harbor tugs, trawlers, warships and such. But, one of the more interesting offerings are their large, modern merchant ships.

They offer several, mostly in 1/96 or 1/100 scales. The models are large and ready for RC operation, but they also make really interesting static displays. Their Fairwind kit, is 1/76-scale, very close to railroad modelers’ HO scale, which would make for a really interesting addition to a port side railroad layout.

The Deans Marine also produces a line of Compact kits, which is made up of smaller vessels, mostly at the same scale as the big ships. These kits are also design for RC operation, but their smaller sizes make them a bit handier to take to the water, with most models being under 20″ long.

For those of you who are not familiar with this line of kits, here’s a text clip from the Deans Marine website:

All of the models in the Deans Marine range are designed to be working radio controlled scale models to constant scales i.e. warships to 1/96-1/100, launches to 1/24. service craft 1/48. Each model is tried and tested on the water for sea keeping and handling.
Hulls are of lightweight fibreglass. Decks and superstructures are constructed from computer printed, 6 colour coded plastic.
The kits are complete with fittings cast in lightweight alloy for the fine detail, with larger items cast in plastic to save weight but retaining all the detail required.
To complement this, fragile items such as stanchions, ladders, dial sights and lattice masts are in etched brass. All kits are complete with rudder, tiller arm and lock bolt, prop tubes and stainless steel shafts. Our Kits contain a full size plan or plans, instruction book with suggested motors, couplings etc.

We carry more than two dozen different Deans Marine kits. A few of these have yet to be added to our website including the Z37 Narvik, Kristina Motorlogger, Mercandian President, Zulu, Dufresne, Pieter Boele, Medea, and the M15 Monitor. Look for these on our website in the next couple weeks.

Two RC Steam Kits from Saito Manufacturing Added at Ages of Sail

Two more items have been added to the lineup of RC steam kits from Japan’s Saito Manufacturing, the Neptune Tug Boat and the Samson II Deep Salvage Tug. These are big models, with the Neptune each measuring nealy 4′ long and the Samson II measure close to 5′ long.

Both model kits are 1/40-scale and feature fiberglass hull, wooden structural parts, brass, plastic and cast metal fittings. Boiler/Burner combinations and engines are sold separately.
