We’ve been following this build as we are seller and distributor for Shipyard paper model kits. Paper and card models are still pretty rare here in the U.S., but modelers are beginning to take notice.
There are two types of model kits produced by Shipyard. There are paper models, which are very inexpensive, but require the cutting out of many very tiny parts. Then, there are the laser-cut cardboard models, in which all the parts are already cut for you. The laser-cut kits are also produced at a larger scale, and they include resin figureheads and carvings, brass or 3D printed cannon barrels, pre-printed sails, and an illustrated instruction booklet.
These laser-cut card kits are more expensive, but we think they are much easier and complete and a better choice for serious builders. We recommend trying something simpler to being with, like the French lugger Le Coureur.
