Looking for a really grand project for this Winter? Maybe something without all the rigging work, but lots and lots of fine detail? Check out this monster of a ship model kit. OcCre’s new 1/200 scale Battleship Missouri kit is BIG, measuring just over 53″ long – that’s almost 4-1/2 feet of ship model!

This is an Advanced Level ship model kit that consists of well over 6000 parts and takes an estimated 1400 hours to complete. Are you up to the task?

The kit includes precisely scaled parts in metal and wood, and the large size makes it ideal for creating an accurate display of this famous warship, aboard which the Japanese formally signed their surrender, marking the official end of World War II.

The Mighty Mo, as she was nicknamed, was an Iowa-class battleship, the last battleship commissioned during World War II, and as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She also served two tours of duty during the Korean War before being retired to the reserve fleet in 1955. Then, in 1984, she was reactivated and modernized and saw service in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

The Missouri was decommissioned in 1992 and became a museum ship at Pearl Harbor, where she can still be seen today.

This is a fully masted and rigged model kit, though these photos only show her hull construction. Check out the details of this new and most exciting kit, available now at Ages of Sail here: https://www.agesofsail.com/product/hms-indefatigable-164-vanguard-models/  Ω

More RC – Introducing Aero-Naut Kits from Germany

Note: We originally posted this yesterday. But our posts get put onto our Facebook page automatically, and unfortunately, when talking about how things are getting back to normal, we mentioned the word see-oh-vee-eye-dee. We have to put the word here phonetically, so that Facebook doesn’t catch it and limit our ability to share the post.  We’re not going to use the “c” word here and hope it works better this time!

So, as the Summer quickly approaches, more and more of us are able to get out and enjoy the outdoors. That doesn’t mean you have to abandon ship modeling! Take it outdoors with these great RC kits we’ve just brought in from Aero-Naut of Germany.

These Aero-naut kits are all designed for RC operation. Some feature wooden hulls and some have plastic hulls. But, all will allow you to install your own choice of radio control equipment.

We currently have sixteen kits to choose from, from sport boats and fishing boats, to workboats and battleships. And, all of the kits we sell include the fittings. So, it’s not necessary to buy a separate fittings set.

Take a look at just some of the Aero-Naut products we now carry…

Artesania Latina’s All New Santa Maria Kit

This latest shipment we received from Artesania Latina is particularly significant. As you might have read in our recent post, the new Vasa kit they came out with is in stock at our shop and it looks incredible. They’re clearly vying for best Vasa (or Wasa) kit in the industry. But, that’s not all that’s new from them. Take a look at this beautifully designed Santa Maria kit.

Artesania Latina’s kit is newly redesigned to make your ship model building experience better than ever.  This 1/65-scale wooden kit measures roughly 19.5″ long and 19.4″ tall. It is a carefully engineered kit featuring laser-cut wooden framing, and includes cast metal, turned brass, photo-etched brass, and wooden fittings. Pre-sewn sails are included, as are the colorfully printed flags, and templates for painting the sails.

To add some extra realism to your model and to help bring it to life, they’ve created an optional set of 10 figures especially designed for this kit. This set includes figures of Christopher Columbus, Juan de la Cosa, Martín Alonso Pinzón, Vicente Yáñez Pinzón, Rodrigo de Triana, plus five sailor figures. And, of course, these figures should work well on any 1/65-scale galleon or caravel, which includes the full range of Artesania Latina’s models of Columbus’s ships, as well as that of Amati’s, which is also in 1/65 scale.

One of the best things about these new Artesania Latina kits is how much work they’ve put into the kit instructions. These instructions are now in digital format, so you’ll need a computer to read the included DVD, or you can simply download them from Artesania Latina’s website and view the helpful tutorial videos (also included on the DVD) on their Youtube channel.

You may not be able to see it fully on our post image here, but the full-sized image clearly shows the run of one of the rigging lines, actually showing you where the line begins, how it runs through two blocks, and where it ties off. This is an area where many less experienced ship modelers have difficulties with interpreting printed plans. Such plans often show a line, but it can be hard to follow where the line runs and where it is belayed.

Artesania Latina solves the issue by provide a 164-page visual guide with hundreds of photos, showing you every step of construction and rigging.

If this kit is an example of the direction Artesania Latina is taking their products, ship modeling appears to have a very bright future.
